Day off in Memphis, TN

Yesterday afternoon, after blogging, we checked out the Beale Street. It was great fun to listen to the sounds of various rock-a-billy and blues bands while in the park or checking our the different establishments.

Every Wednesday night is "Bike Night on Beale". The street is typically closed down to traffic, except for Wednesday nights, when it inundated with hundreds of beautiful motorcycles.

We enjoyed the great music, energy of the crowd and some tasty southern food, including deep fried strawberries topped with whipped cream and chocolate!
Early the next morning we walked a bit to find a local breakfast joint... and made plans for the rest of the day.
Our plan to golf 9 holes became a challenge when all 3 courses in an 8 mile radius were closed on Thursdays or closed for good. Since we needed to go to a sporting good store, we decided to go past the 9 hole course in the park. We noticed others playing amidst the sprinklers and decided to follow suit.

None of the greens had flags, but we could identify where each green was because the sprinklers.

It was a fun course and running through the sprinklers was an added bonus.

We got to the sporting goods store to pick up needed supplies. We snacked on some deep fried dill pickles and sweet tea ( for Tim's enjoyment, not mine )
At 5:00 we witnessed the daily march of the Peabody ducks.

It's a great 79 year tradition that started as a practical joke and now draws huge crowds to watch the ducks march off the elevator at 11:00am to the indoor fountain where they spend the day, then at 5:00PM they return to the rooftop terrace via the redcarpet gangway to the elevator.

Another stroll up and down Beale Street, dinner, then planning for tomorrows ride while watching the lightening storm from our hotel room.
