Day 10 to Blytheville, AR

We enjoyed a big hotel breakfast prior to our 6:30 pedal start. There was no problem getting to the bridge to take us over the Mississippi River to Arkansas, but it did involve climbing a set stairs to get to the bridge.
We should have known at that point that we might run into a few challenges.
The bridge was loud, with fierce vibrations and plenty of large obstacles that were thrown over the barricade into the bike lane.

We made it to Arkansas without incident.
Happy to be off the bridge, we eagerly followed the Google Bike directions.... and found ourselves on a heavily graveled roadway. We were uncomfortable but assumed that the gravel would end soon.

Well, you know what assuming does.... that darn gravel road got worse and just kept going and going. At that point we needed to decide to backtrack or continue forward. We made the wrong decision... and kept going, only to realize our error a mile later when the road completely disappeared. At that point we did backtrack, and then climbed up an embankment to the highway.

A few miles later we found a water hose where we could wash off the excess pounds of mud and grit collected in the derailleurs and breaks.
The remaining 70 miles of our journey were much less eventful, cycling parallel to railroad tracks, past fields of cotton and soy. We endured some challenging crosswinds, but sailed when they became tailwinds.

We stopped in several small towns for "refueling" before arriving in Blytheville.

The rest of the day included a dip in the pool, laundry, roaming the area and dinner.
