We had such a nice stay in New Smyrna Beach, but today we needed to continue our northbound journey. Our destination was St. Augustine.
The 71 miles we traveled were vey pleasant with a mild breeze. We road past big, beautiful beach houses and in neighborhoods that had so many eclectic styles of interesting and unique homes. The beach road A1A was very accommodating to bicycles, even on a busy, beautiful Sunday when the everyone seems to want to hit the beach.
At 11:11 we were at Flagler pier.
We saw so many fishermen along the Indian River… on fishing boats and fishing kayaks, on bridges and of course standing on the waters edge. It seems a very popular pastime.
We arrived mid afternoon in the very historic city of St . Augustine, The oldest continuously occupied settlement of European and African-American origin in the United States.
This now very touristy old city has lots of shops an restaurants and is closed to cars. As we strolled through we heard and enjoyed many live music performances… both in establishments and on the streets.
We walked over the Bridge of Lions that reminded us of European bridges to have dinner with Teresa and Guy. They were in St.Augustine for music festival, so it worked out perfect to enjoy a dinner together.
