We avoided the bridge, but there wasn’t a way to avoid the horrible roads we needed to take. Again today there was pretty consistent traffic with large trucks. Our riding space was about 2’ and at 6” of that was rumble strips. Much if the path was littered with weeds, sand or dirt that blew in or debris from the road. No pictures of that… just too dangerous. The picture below is when there was less traffic and cleaner bike area.
We were hopeful that things would improve as we crossed the stateline… but that most certainly is not the case.
Tim referred to the our challengeing bike path as a balance beam. I was feeling pretty confident, but the focus, balance and maneuvering necessary exhausted Tim. The final two miles to town were on a separate bike path. Hooray!
Once in town, we checked the old town and had a bite by the waterfront. There was an added excitement in town due to the fact that the Blue Angels will be preforming at tomorrow’s air show here in Beaufort.
After cleaning up we explored more of this historic town. We saw the house where the Big Chil was filmed and read the many historic markers throughout the town .
Dinner was at a very popular local: The Bull.
Beaufort is a very popular yet quaint, historic town that was fun to explore.
I have stopped in all these towns either traveling by car or boat but I think you see a lot more and have more interactions with fun people by bicycle!
