There were many stops today … for lots of various reasons , the first to capture this photo.
Faced with headwind, we still enjoyed the scenery.. fisherman doing their thing, the bridges and boats, and the variety of beach houses/ mansions.
To keep our mind off the wind for a while we
focused on unique mailbox photos.
In attempt to find relief from the wind, we chose to take an alternate google map option that takes us away from A1A ocean front road. The route was beautiful and well sheltered, but unfortunately after almost two miles in the Guana River Wildlife Management Area we discovered the path had turned to deep sand and we had to backtrack to get back to the A1A.
,
At 11:11 we were at a Publix (grocery store).
Only half way through our ride (at mile 42) we stopped at Steak and Shakes fast food to share a burger and wonderful chocolate milkshake to keep us going.
Heading into Jacksonville was tricky. Very busy roads with lots of debris and drivers not so accustomed to cyclist.
Long story short… we rolled into our hotel with dinner in a the grocery bag (from nearby Publix) and a flat tire (#4 for me, again the back tire) at 5:15! Laundry day.. and early to bed to rest up after a challenging 83 mile day.
